Ability for non-members to become affiliates

I would love the ability for someone who isn't currently in my community to become an affiliate in a smoother way - my workaround is to have them join an affiliate only thread and then they sign up the normal way - but I'd like the onboarding process to encompass both joining the community and becoming an affiliate

I'm just now looking into having an affiliate program and I wonder how effective an affiliate would be if they don't have any experience using the product/being in your community. Have you done this somewhere else before and it worked for you? I really love the idea and it would definitely expand the affiliate pool but wondering about the commitment and authenticity of someone who is not in your community.
