Limit DMs, User Directory and Online Status based on User Groups
complete
Encompass Global
Right now, DMs are either on or off for all users.
It would be great to limit DM access based on individual user groups instead of global setting.
For example, right now, it seems like a user can choose to start a DM chat with any admin, moderator, user or group - even if they're not a part of that group.
We've disabled DMs for now but we'd like DMs to work within the group context.
We use Heartbeat for Corporate Clients as well and we wouldn't want external users to be able to message a private group.
The same applies for the User Directory.
We'd like to be able to control this at the group level.
For example, there may not be a global level directory but users can see the directory users who are in the groups that they are actually a part of.
This privacy based on grouping should also apply to "Online Status" and "Matchups" as well.
Hoping this can be improved over time!

Honestly, this is not solving the main problem. I like all members to be in a "basic group" where I share all kinds of announcements, thus exposing everyone to everyone. This still gives people the ability to spam. I would be much easier to limit DMs by role or group they belong to

Agreed. I don’t see how Isolated Groups solves this request the way many of us are envisioning it. I’ve just upvoted a similar request to clarify the need to toggle DMs either on or off at the group level without necessarily completely isolating a group from the others.

Please check out the new isolated groups feature: https://guide.heartbeat.chat/groups#839d54a403284e90830b1360586ab76b

Misty Dorman - Heartbeat Team: I'm not sure how the isolated groups really answer to the request above... So, now you can make an isolated group, but what if you have a group that you don't want to be isolated (they still have access to all public threads, docs, etc; isolated is way too strict), but you just want to toggle DMs (etc) on or off for that specific group?
I really would like the DM-toggle ON/OFF to be possible at the group level.

Meindert Schaap: this request was to be able to keep DMing within groups. If a group is set to isolated, members within that group can only see other members of the group provided other settings are correct, so it makes it easier to limit them to DMing within their group.

Because we work with street children, we want to be careful about what goes on in our community, and moderate/oversee "everything" (child safeguarding). For this reason, I have switched off the DM option...
However, I really would like it if people could DM the Admins and Moderators... So, not DM-ing other Users, but ONLY the Admins/Moderators...
Hope that this can be built in too!

So good, thank you for your post regarding DM´s!
HEARTBEAT TEAM: Please resolve the DM issue
Here is ours: I am admin on heartbeat. At the moment it is 644 users, and growing. We desperately need to disable the possibility for everybody to send a DM to everybody. Further on, we need the admins to be able to send a DM to everybody, with no possibility for people to reply.
It would be so nice to be able to delete a DM conversation too. They are piling up... In advance, thank you so much 😄

For me, it is also a crucial factor with respect to privacy issues. When I have high paying customers in a group I want to protect their privacy unless I have permission to disclose that they are customers and what they offer they have enrolled it.
In European countries that may also be a legal issue. Under the rules of GDPR privacy is very important.

Would be great to have this... overwhelming for students to be able to message me directly!

This is a crucial feature as some community has different groups from different age range, background etc.
