Request to join button for channels

I noticed that we can create private channels, but I think there’s room to make this feature even more useful. It would be great if private channels could still be visible to members (without showing the content inside) so they can discover them and request to join if interested.
As the community grows, sending individual invitations to every member could become tedious. Instead, having a “request to join” button directly on the channel would allow members to express interest and keep the process simple for admins.
This would also help reduce overwhelm. Right now, members are automatically added into open channels, which can feel spammy with notifications. Allowing members to select the channels that interest them would give them more control over their experience, while keeping engagement authentic and intentional.

Optional Channels

It'd be great to have a way to make a channel name live in the sidebar, but they don’t have access to the contents inside until they click on it and somehow “confirm” they want access, or request to join. Basically I want to give them the option to choose to join an optional channel based on their interests at any time.
I know you can do this when they select “groups to join” when creating an account, but we need another way to allow this, after they onboarded for those who changed their mind. Thanks!
