Sort and filter directory

I'd like to be able to sort the directory ie: alphabetically, newest members, etc.
I'd also like the feature that Mighty Networks has wherein you can filter by "members closest to me" so I, and my members, can find other local members.

With the option to be able to filter the directory (on the left) and the member list (on the right), as well as the direct messages without having to create a chat. Filter by role and group as a minimum.

I wish there was a way to create mini groups within the directory. My community is over 120 people. Some members are local but most are not. I'd like to create a mini group for the local members (that only I can see) so that I can easily remember them and can message them quicker about meet ups

additionally, i'd like to be able to sort & filter by their group. in the attached image, i want to see everyone in the group 'RLs' but no one comes up - although there are many in that group
